Chris Oliver, Environmental Specialist II
Chris has been awarded the 2022 Jim Stevenson Resource Manager of the Year Award.
Chris has devoted his career to the management of the Myakka Wild and Scenic River, and he has coordinated several large-scale projects to restore hydrology in the river. Recognizing the importance of protecting imperiled wood storks and reddish egrets, he worked with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission staff to place signage around the rookeries, alerting recreational boaters to efforts to respect their nesting grounds.
He has also worked with many partners to remove invasive non-native grasses and apply prescribed fire to the restored area. In the summer and fall, wildflowers are abundant as a reward.
