When asked to picture Florida, many people think of busy cities or amusement parks. But when I hike through Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve over white sand hills and between towering longleaf pines, I’m reminded of what we call ...the Real Florida.
These pristine natural areas foster our state’s amazing variety of wildlife. Birders will find themselves in paradise as eagles and swallow-tailed kites sail overhead, and equestrians can enjoy the view from their saddles on our 12 miles of horse-accessible trails. Hikers can enjoy the solitude and allow themselves to be immersed in the scrub, far from the sights and sounds of our busy cities. Every time I explore this wild place, I find something new. What will you find at Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve?
Take advantage of an early morning hike on one of our nature trails here at Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve. The mornings are the best times to see the scrub come to life with the many different species of birds that visit and live in this sandy scrub habitat. The trails are also a great way to create lasting memories while getting away from the busy city life.
Remember to bring your water and don't forget your dog's 6-foot leash.
