Although the snook, mangrove snapper and manatee have left the winter warm water confines of the spring, there are still opportunities to admire some of the fish that call the spring home during the warmer summer months. Species include redfish, mullet, sheepshead, bass and brim. Go down into the Underwater Observatory to see the fish, possibly see one of our resident manatees, or just to cool off! Summer is a great time to enjoy the calm of our park and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us.
The big crowds have died down, so park staff have an opportunity to catch up on some needed maintenance projects. Over the summer months, construction will begin on the bald eagle exhibit and other bird of prey exhibits. Rangers will continue to pressure wash boardwalks and walkways and paint throughout the park. Behind the scenes, cyclical maintenance projects will occur.
I am thankful for the great staff and volunteers here at the park. Without their dedication to the park’s natural and cultural resources, it wouldn’t be the great place that it is for all of us to enjoy.
