Since the 1930s, people have been camping at Florida Caverns State Park.
Visitors have enjoyed the park’s cavern tours, hiking the trails and paddling the scenic Chipola River.
On Oct. 10, 2018, Florida Caverns State Park was struck by Category 5 Hurricane Michael. The park lost more than 90% of its thick canopied forest and many of its facilities were damaged. The campground was closed along with access to the river.
The cavern, where tours have been conducted since the 1930s, was filled with silt and debris.
On Oct. 1, 2021, the 38-site campground reopened for both recreational vehicles and tents.
- Thirty-two of the sites are equipped with 30/50-amp electricity, water, sewer hookups, a picnic table, a grill and a fire ring.
- Three RV/trailer sites in the equestrian camping area have the same amenities but do not have sewer hookups. A dump station is available. Stables are available for those who bring their horses.
- Three primitive tent sites in the equestrian area are also available. These sites do not have electricity or sewer hookups.

Today, most amenities in the park have reopened.
- Tours of the caverns are conducted Thursday through Monday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central daylight saving time, by concession staff. Cavern tours are closed on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thanksgiving and Christmas. A new surface-based lighting and electric system illuminates the caverns.
- Multiuse trails are open for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians.
- Access to the Chipola River is available for small vessels.
- Picnic pavilions are available.
- The Bluehole swimming area is open.
