Park Ranger Jane Cummings has received the Joe Kenner Award for Interpreter of the Year.
Jane is the Interpretive chairperson for Wekiwa Springs State Park and is an interpretive champion in District 3 in the Orlando area. She works diligently to create and provide quality interpretive programs. Jane works with the Wekiva Wilderness Trust, volunteers, school systems and community groups to create natural and cultural interpretive opportunities/events. In the past 12 months, she has presented 26 programs and created three virtual programs.
Jane was a pioneer for virtual programming. Jane is so adaptable that she can give programs to anyone (young, old, large group size or small) on almost any topic related to the park (natural and cultural resources). She has also been successful in modifying her interpretive approach to focus on roving interpretation.
Jane's contributions to the interpretive program have elevated the visitor experience. From giving interpretive programs to helping visitors with any questions or concerns they may have, Jane will go above and beyond to create a happy and safe visitor experience.
As the interpretive lead for Wekiwa Springs, she shares her passion for protecting our natural and cultural resources with park staff and park visitors. Jane is committed to enhancing the interpretive program at Wekiwa Springs State Park.
The Joe Kenner Award for Interpreter of the Year is awarded annually to a career service employee with frontline, public contact responsibility who has made outstanding contributions to the Florida Park Service through interpretive programming during the previous year.
